Locus Map - Application Design

The aim of this project was analysing the usability of this application by investigating how novice users would interact with Locus map. In order to “ Make the whole journey experience easy and enjoyable for beginners to expert users of locus map “, highlighted problems are developed into feasible solutions for a new user interface. The essential functions were selected and altered in terms of use cues, new visualisation, icons and system feedback

LocusMap is an outdoor application which aims to help outdoor enthusiasts reach their
destination. However, Locus Map offers much more than just navigation: it facilitates users in every aspect of outdoor activities. The large amount of functions that its offers has an influence on the complexity and the way users understand the application.
Therefore, the aim of this project was analysing the usability of this application by investigating how novice users would interact with Locus map.
In order to “ Make the whole journey experience easy and enjoyable for beginners to expert users of locus map “, highlighted problems are developed into feasible solutions for a new user interface. The essential functions were selected and altered in terms of use cues, new visualisation, icons and system feedback

Eventually, for the final re-design the menu structure is simplified to support user for planning and preparing his journey, giving opportunity to edit his plan
and get more information about environmental aspects during his journey; and finally review, share his memories and route with other locus users and friends.

The final re-design of user interface was implemented into an interactive prototype. The new system architecture allows users to perform the tasks intuitively rather than forcing the user to learn the app by hard. The User interface facilitated their actions with necessary feedbacks. The new graphics and icons are tailored in away to support first time users as well as experts.
